As the new season begins, we have a quick look back over an unusual summer.
Firstly the season ended for Infinity SMBC, with the AGM in April. The trophies won over the 2023-2024 season were on show and, for the first time, new trophies from the club were presented to club members for individual achievements:
PLAYER OF THE SEASON – Steve Adsett
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER – Elly Newman
CLUB SINGLES WINNER – Peter Whale
BEST NEW BOWLER – Lynn Teale
OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE CLUB – Robin Armstrong
The summer was an unusual one for two reasons; firstly for the introduction of the Infinity Open Fours Competition and secondly, the reduction in the number of summer competitions caused by the loss of the use of Westergate Leisure Centre at such short notice.
Infinity Open Fours Competition
This attracted entries from numerous clubs and was a huge success on the day. As usual it was all organised superbly by Robin and the matches were well spread throughout the day with the non-competing teams tucking into tea, cake and a huge variety biscuits of biscuits served by the tireless Fiona and Maddo.
The clubs taking part in our inaugural competition included:
Cowfold,
The Martlets,
Bursledon,
Leigh Park,
Horsham,
North End,
Portsdown,
Loddon Vale,
Crablands,
Horsham.
After a great day’s bowling played competitively but in good humour, the final placings were:
Winners: LODDON VALE
Runners up: PORTSDOWN
Third place: NORTH END
Thanks to all who entered and for making it such a successful and enjoyable day.
3-2-1 Competition, Storrington
Infinity were well represented by skipper Steve Jeffery, Brian Mills and Geoff Teale at the recent competition at Storrington.
After a hardfought competition the Infinity team finished runners up.
Other Club Members’ Achievements:
Sussex Champion of Champions Competition:
Steve Adsett – Quarter finalist
Hampshire Open Pairs:
Brian and Denise M – Last 16
Denise K and Alan – Quarter Final
Steve Jeffery – Semi Final
4-2-2 Competition:
Denise K, Denise M, FBC and Maddo were placed 4th.
England Call up
Denise Merritt was rightfully (and belatedly) called up to represent England Ladies. Congrats Denise, it is very well deserved!
Congratulations to all Infinity members on their achievements this summer.
