About us

Club History

The club was formed in April 2010 by 6 friends, who wanted to form a new forward-thinking club, with the aim of being flexible for all members,to be able to play as much or as little as they wanted and to be able to play socially or play to the highest competitive levels. These are aims that are still successfully being implemented by the club today.

The club started in a small village hall in Slinfold, just outside Horsham with borrowed equipment and a very small membership. Within the clubs first season, 2010-11 the team entered and won the North East Division 2 league title gaining promotion into the regional Division 1.

Following a further promotion the next season to the Countywide Divisions the club decided to search for a better home venue, which would allow the club to continue to grow and improve. The start of the 2012-13 season saw the club relocate to the relatively newly built Boxgrove Village Hall, just outside Chichester. This change of location allowed the club to have an extra mat in the venue, and so have more space for more members.

More success followed in the 2012-13 season, winning a third league title and a third promotion

in the first three seasons into the top league Countywide Division 1. The club also lifted the Knockout Plate title for a second time in three seasons.

The club has continued to find success within West Sussex picking up multiple county honours, in our 13 year history, to date these include 4 county singles, 6 county pairs, 6 county triples and 6 county fours titles. The club became a specialist in the Knockout Cup, winning the title for a record 5 years in a row and eventually winning the Countywide Division 1 title in 2017-18.

As well as successes within West Sussex, many of our members have also enjoyed representing the county in the Inter County Championships and also in National Competitions. We have also been represented internationally, by members being selected in the England national teams. Plus members taking part in and having some success in the international, Short Mat Players Tour.
